Youngsters in Swaffham have been encouraged to take up more exercise through a series of user-friendly sessions offered at the local sports centre.

Fitness company Parkwood Leisure which operates Swaffham Leisure Centre has launched a new programme - expressions Pump - aimed at children and teenagers aged 8-16, and providing gym classes after school.

Paul Bealey, at the centre said the health and fitness brand helps youth to get a better lifestyle by keeping active and motivated.

“According to research, children who exercise are happier and achieve better grades than those who prefer to spend their free time watching television or playing computer games,” he said.

“If we get the children to enrol on the programme we'll then be looking to expand, bringing in football or badminton classes.”

The gym sessions are available at Swaffham Leisure Centre on Brandon Road for an hour every Friday from 4pm. A session costs £2.50.
