SUNDAY was a big day for Cycling Club Breckland youngsters Adam Cross and Emily Davis when they competed in a 144-strong field for the George Herbert Stancer Championship.
This was organised by Welwyn Wheelers on a local course and riders, who had come through their regional heats, arrived from all over the United Kingdom to take part in the 10-mile time trial especially for school children.
The winner in a staggering 20:59 was 16-year-old Sam Harrison (Cwmcarn Paragon) while the fastest time turned in by a girl was 24:10 returned by Hannah Barnes (Palmer Park Velo), aged 15. Adam Cross, 14, finished 60th overall but 13th in age category in a time of 25:53.
Having only just turned 13, Emily Davis came eighth in her age group, recording 33:46.
With the season of racing events rapidly coming to a close CC Breckland are already looking ahead to next year's programme of events.
But, in the meantime, there are the Sunday and Thursday club runs to enjoy, together with a new Audax type event in October.
