WATTON Junior Hockey Club's U9 squad travelled to Lynnsport at King's Lynn for the Pelicans Hockey Club annual U9 tournament.

Watton drew 1-1 with Norwich City Owletts, beat Dereham Dynamos 1-0, beat Pelican Squabs 3-0, lost to Harleston Magpies 2-0, beat Dereham Dazzlers 2-0 and beat Pelicans Chicks 2-0.

Watton had a chance to become the tournament champions if they won their last game against Norwich Cygnets.

In a good end-to-end game Watton played well but couldn't quite match their earlier performances. The game ended in a 0-0 draw with Watton securing the runners-up position but only one point denying them the overall title.

Steven Gale and Sam Holland scored all but one of the Watton goals. Haidee Anscombe played very well on the right wing and scored her first goal.

Newcomer Thomas Barber showed great promise with an energetic display.

In defence, Amy Church and Owen Hughson played well, together with keeper Pollyann Batty, only conceding three goals throughout their seven matches.
