A tense and nervous Swaffham squad made hard work of grinding out a draw to collect a Thurlow Nunn First Division point on Saturday.

The visitors took advantage of the windy conditions early in the first half and opened the scoring nine minutes into the game. A corner from the left was headed home from 12 yards, the marking leaving much to be desired. The frustrated Pedlars then found it difficult to compose themselves for the remainder of the period.

Ironically the blustery wind dropped in the second half as the hosts picked up their game. Opportunities came and were frustratingly missed, the crowd trying to will the ball into the net for Swaffham.

The breakthrough finally came with two minutes of normal time remaining, Alex Vincent cutting across the area to net in the far bottom corner.

Last night the Pedlars travelled to Cornard United before hitting the road again on Saturday to take on Braintree Town Reserves – who ground share with title rivals Long Melford. Promotion remains a huge possibility with three games remaining in the season and just four teams fighting for one of the top-three positions.

Swaffham have won the Thurlow Nunn League Performance Award for February and March.

The prize is £150 to the club and £100 to the charity of its choosing. That cause is the Merle Boddy Centre, a local charity run by the Swaffham and District Mental Health Association. For more details visit http://www.merleboddycentre.co.uk/

The presentations were made by Andrew Parsons of Thurlow Nunn Ltd and league chairman Peter Hutchings at Saturday's home game with Stowmarket Town.

• It was a disappointing Saturday for Swaffham Town Reserves.

The Pedlars' second-string went down 2-0 at Easton – who make the trip to Shoemakers Lane this weekend for the return Anglian Combination Division Three fixture (kick-off 2.30pm).

The under-18s won 3-2 at Mildenhall Town. Goals from Harry Ward and Dylan Edge (2) rounded off a great evening's entertainment. On Thursday they play their last league game of the term, against Mildenhall again, at Shoemakers Lane. The Pedlars still have the semi-final of the Thurlow Nunn Youth Cup to look forward to.
