Local drivers were in fantastic form when the 2L Banger World Final was staged at the Norfolk Arena recently.

Over 100 2L Bangers were in action, which was the result of more fantastic support from drivers.

The only local driver who had already qualified for the world final was Swaffham young gun Ashley Garrod, who has been a revelation since becoming a Trackstar driver this year and steadily worked his way up the national points and grading list and also produced some great performances to qualify for the world final at the first time of asking.

Garrod was joined in the world final by Karl Turnbull (Swaffham) who won the first chance race.

In the world final, Garrod raced a superbly presented car which was a real credit to his team, and despite this being his first major race with many expecting him not to rise to the occasion, he once again demonstrated how far he has come by surviving the early chaos and motoring through the grid.

So when there was a stoppage at the half-way stage, he had made his way up to fifth place. Unfortunately at the mid-way stoppage it could also be seen that he had picked up a puncture and it was not long into the restarted race that he retired.

He came out in the consolation, though, and qualified for the World Masters with an eighth place finish and he was joined in that race by Turnbull and Davey Cox (Swaffham), who qualified through his heat.

Turnbull soon took the lead in the World Masters and went on to take the win, surviving a near full-track blockage in the latter laps of the race. Garrod once again impressed as he came flying through from towards the back of the grid and came home in third place, and in doing so, was the best placed Trackstar finisher and also the highest graded finisher on the podium.
