Swaffham Town's youngsters will be aiming to end a memorable season with some silverware on Friday evening.

After a hard-fought battle away to Woodbridge Town last week, the Pedlars' Under-18 side earned their place in the Thurlow Nunn Youth League Championship final.

A single goal split the sides, Tommy Hunt playing Korben Willis through in the 35th minute for a one-on-one with the keeper, and Willis slotting home in some style style.

Woodbridge never really threatened the Swaffham defence until midway through the second half, bringing the best out of Aaron Watson, who made a fine save to keep his clean sheet and help the Pedlars secure a hard-fought 1-0 win.

Swaffham will now meet the winners of the South Division, AFC Sudbury, in the final, to be played at Diss Town's Brewers Green Lane ground this Friday (7.30pm).

Swaffham supporters are being encouraged to come along and cheer the lads on. Admission prices are adults £3 and children and concessions £2.

Although not the most rewarding season on the pitch for the first team, who finished bottom of the Premier Division, it was a proud moment to discover that the team were joint winners with Newmarket Town of the Thurlow Nunn League Integrity in Football Award.

This was a tribute to the behaviour and fairness displayed by the players and management team throughout the season.

Paul Hunt and his squad of players have been a credit to the town throughout this season, even if results did not always go their way.

The Pedlars had their moments but ended the season five points adrift at the bottom after being beaten 3-0 at home by fellow strugglers FC Clacton in their final match.

Swaffham Town are grateful to all of their sponsors this season and are aiming to build on the good work undertaken and come out fighting for the 2017/2018 season.

Special thanks goes to club sponsors Narford Scaffolding and the George Hotel and Greyhound Inn for the after-match refreshment.
