Swaffham Town’s prospects are looking up after sealing their first win of the season.
A good all-round performance saw the Pedlars win a tough battle against a strong Ely City side, the deadlock broken in the 67th minute, Alex Vincent scoring from a free-kick, 22 yards out on the right-hand side, the ball thumping into the top left-hand corner of the net.
Swaffham kept pressing the Robins but despite captain Mikey Thompson and Vincent rattling the posts, both from distance, there was no further extension to the score-line.
Last night Paul Hunt took his team across the county to take on Great Yarmouth Town in their latest Thurlow Nunn Premier Division fixture, losing 2-1, ahead of the Norfolk Senior Cup taking centre stage on Saturday.
Attleborough are the visitors to Shoemakers Lane in the second round, with kick-off against the Anglian Combination Division One side at 1.30pm.
Also claiming three points were the club’s under-18s, away to CSF Canaries at the Football Development Centre in Bowthorpe. Two goals from Jack Prentice sealed the victory in the first half, Swaffham taking the lead in the second minute, the home side gifted an equaliser, before Prentice regained the lead and the Pedlars did enough in the second half to clinch the points. The U18s were away to North Walsham.
There was further excitement in the Norfolk Junior Cup, with Swaffham Reserves playing their second replay against West Lynn, the previous games both won 2-1 by the Pedlars but irregularities in both cases forcing a replay. On Saturday the reserves secured an impressive 6-1 victory to hopefully close the matter, with goals from Callum Robinson, Mark Smith, Jamie Titmarsh and Jake Slender, as well as penalties from Luke Reed and Harry Porter.
Their opponents in round two are Sporle, at home on Saturday.
