Swaffham Town maintained their push for promotion to the top flight of the Thurlow Nunn League with an impressive 4-0 victory over Diss Town at Shoemakers Lane.
After having most of the play in the opening period the deadlock was finally broken in the 32nd minute, Ben Coe heading home at the back post from Nick Castellan’s corner.
Coe made it two just four minutes later, the ball running loose following a great save by the keeper, and Coe slamming home from 10 yards.
It would have been four at half-time but for two top draw saves from visiting keeper Kingsley Barnes, who had most probably his best game of his season.
The woodwork played a big part in the second half, Tommy Hunt clipping the outside of the left hand post with a rocket from 18 yards and Coe being denied his hat-trick by the crossbar after a drive from 12 yards.
The goal of the game came on the verge of normal time, Kyle Plumb tracking down the ball on the right hand touch line, holding it up and laying it back to Luke Reed who rounded a defender and slotted the ball into the left hand corner from 12 yards.
The icing on the cake came four minutes into added time from a goalmouth scramble. Diss fought to clear their lines and the centre half cleared into the chest of the approaching Danny Tindall, with the ball rebounding into the net.
It was a well earned and well deserved three points for the Pedlars who maintained third position in the Division One table with games in on the rivals. They remain eight points leaders Harleston Town, who beat Haverhill Borough 5-1, having played three less matches.
It’s Friday night football this week with the battle of the A47 as the Pedlars travel to The Walks to meet King’s Lynn Town Reserves (7.45pm).
The Reserves are back in action Anglian Combination Division Three action on Saturday with a trip to ninth placed Earsham. The Pedlars remain in third position themselves with just two league games remaining.
The young Pedlars have their final home game this Thursday, with CSF Canaries the visitors to Shoemakers lane.
