SWAFFHAM U15 rugby team entertained Spalding Sunday morning at North Pickenham Road.

The match which was scheduled for a late kick off was the first this year the squad had played at home due to weather conditions but the morning which greeted them was an ideal, sunny spring morning.

A good crowd of supporters had gathered for this first meeting of the two clubs and from the opening exchanges it was clear than this was going to be a physical encounter.

Swaffham's forwards were to the fore in these exchanges out-rucking their large opposition and securing good ball for Shalom at scrum-half.

However the Spalding line was up very quickly and stopped the backs from gaining ground on numerous occasions.

The pressure from this blitz defence finally told for Spalding and they crossed the line for the opening try after a pass had been dropped close to the line as Swaffham were trying to clear the ball.

Swaffham's try came from a clever chip from Sharky which Hud hacked on and both Kane and Hud beat the scrambling defence to the ball with Hud claiming the try. Sharky added the extras.

The level of physicality seemed to be boiling over at this point but only calm heads and solid leadership from the Swaffham captain together with his front row colleagues prevented this from running out of control. This was a very mature display from the boys.

There were a number of solid performances across the park from the smallest squad turnout of the season so far. The whole pack underlined their ability to ruck and maul with anyone and the scrum was very competitive all match. The backs equally stepped up in the tackles.

Impsons Butchers man of the match went to Cupcake for a controlled performance and remaining calm and collected. Huge thanks to all the parents for running the kitchen on the morning.
