Watton (Loch Neaton) Bowls Club's Luton Trophy was a repeat of the club ladies' singles whereby Sheila Clayton played Dorothy Learmonth.

Marden Bowls Club from Kent, on a week's tour of Norfolk, sent five rinks to Watton in a friendly match. Once again we had to call upon our ladies to fill the gaps which the men were unable provide.

Watton also helped the visitors by providing a player at the last minute as they found themselves a player short. They were very grateful to Brenda Draper on this occasion.

The Kentish lads proved the superior team in taking four of the five rinks with a corresponding emphatic victory on the shots.

The next day was the return match away to Bradenham in the second leg of the Ashby Shield.

With a deficit of eight shot to make up the Watton mixed triples played a much tighter game than the previous week. In particular credit goes to Ann and Mike Muggridge with skip Eddie Bebee. They lost heavily in the first match but at Bradenham they came from 4-12 down to win by 16-12, our best result on the day.

Unfortunately the second leg went to the home team by one shot and the overall result by nine. To date each club has won the shield three times, so all to play for again next season.

The closing season drive was held on Sunday with the green then closing on the following day.

Close season events for the diary are as follows;

Saturday coffee mornings at 10am start this weekend, Ashill and District League's presentation evening is at Ashill Hall on Saturday, October 11.

The bowls club annual meeting is on Wednesday, November 12 at 7.30pm, the presentation dinner on Saturday, November 15 and the Christmas lunch in the Gallery Bar on Thursday, December 18.
