Swaffham beat Fakenham by 114 runs in the Mid-Norfolk Sunday League Haverson Division Three.

Swaffham will now look to build on this victory to push on up the league in the upcoming weeks.

Swaffham batted first at Myer's Field on a scorching afternoon.

The wicket and ground were in a reasonable condition despite Saturday's heavy showers.

Dave Annakin and Dan Marlow got off to a solid start with 28 scored off the first 10 overs before both were out in quick succession.

Number three Chris Smith got 11 before he was dismissed.

There then followed a cracking partnership of 70 between the promoted Matthew Smith and Robert Impey, with the majority of runs taken in quick singles.

Impey departed for 32 which included a stupendous lofted six over the covers.

Michael Dye joined Smith and helped him towards his maiden half-century which was brought up with a pulled boundary.

With useful lower-order contributions Swaffham mustered 73 runs in the last 11 overs and finished on 194-8 off

their 40 overs, a good score with a very slow outfield.

Fakenham's young players showed great dedication in the field and Webb (1-20) and Y Lo (3-47) both bowled with good control.

After a lovely tea, Swaffham went into the field looking to push for a victory and were soon on top.

By the 18th over Fakenham were 28-6 thanks to great bowling from off- spinner Jack Coggles who recorded his best-ever figures (4-16) bowling two of the batsman, which accompanied two catches - one by Impey and the other a superb agile catch taken by Bert Crisp behind the stumps.

He was supported ably by C Smith and Annakin.

A frustrating and gutsy partnership between Chase and Featherstone prevented Swaffham from taking the full 21 points. The pair batted for 22 overs until the latter was swiftly stumped by Crisp off the penultimate ball of the match to give M Dye senior a wicket as Fakenham totalled 80-7 in their 40 overs.

Special mention goes to Josh Joachim who scored and umpired for the full 80 overs of the match.
