Swaffham finished the season in style with a 16-10 win at home to Wisbech.

There was a sensible and well structured approach to Swaffham's game but it was Wisbech who struck first with a try under the posts but the conversion went wide.

Unfortunately the visitors made it 10-0 before half-time when they pounced on another mistake.

Swaffham still seemed to sense they were the form team, with calm but focused words behind the posts.

As the half drew towards a close Adam Potter set off on a barnstorming run deep into the Wisbech half.

The referee adjudged the defenders to be offside at the following breakdown and Bird indicated the kick which Milligan duly slotted.

With the wind behind the home side for the second half the mood on the touch line was pretty positive from Swaffham's support.

The side duly stepped up and raised the pressure on the visitors. Swaffham's pack was outstanding in the scrum, Thompson, Bird and Bigland (playing out of position as prop) gave the visitors a hard time in the front row all game.

A number of scrums were won against the head. These continued to give Clarke at scrum half a good source of ball and the backs were now trusting themselves a bit more.

Wisbech seemed to lose a bit of discipline and coughed up a few penalties which each time Bird pointed to the posts and Sharky had a shot at. Missing one but slotting two, one from the 10 metre line, he brought the score to 9-10.

At this point the home side really had their tails up.

From a Wisbech line-out Chamberlain and Wood managed to force their way through the caravan of red and black forwards to clamp onto the ball and win a scrum. Great work from Potter at the base of the scrum enabled Clarke to pass the ball to Milligan.

His clearance kick went deep into the Wisbech 22. The visitors knocked on in the line out and Swaffham had another scrum five metres out.

The back line set themselves and it looked like Wisbech had numbered off well. The scrum was won and M Clarke fed the ball to Milligan who looked to push it out to the backs before a small inside pass to J Clarke who took a line off his shoulder and crashed over under the posts to take the lead.

Milligan took the conversion and the victory was Swaffham's.
