Watton (Loch Neaton) Bowls Club men's team is playing in the quarter-finals of the Hansell's Solicitors Norfolk EBA League Cup at RG Carter BC this week.

Their opponents are from Downham Cons A. The winners will proceed through to the semi-finals to be played in the morning at Wymondham Dell on Saturday, September 6. The finals also take place there in the afternoon.

The Ashill and District League concludes this week.

After defeating Mundford away by 6-2 the A team are hoping to finish in top position. Their final match is at home to Thetford B.

The B team recorded a very good home win of 6-2 against Weeting. They finish their matches at home against Dereham St Nicholas.

The C team playing away gained two points against six to Wymondham Dell. They travel to Diss for their final match.

Watton ladies, despite playing at home, could not match Thetford ladies, who recorded the maximum of eight points. They then played away to Ashill and returned with two points. Their final two matches during this week are both against Wymondham Dell ladies. The first is at home on Monday and then on Friday away.

During the week the bowls club played the annual friendly against G W Staniforth at Thetford.

Their higher standard of play proved too much on the day for the Watton mixed triples, with the home team taking all six rinks.

On Sunday the club held the annual President's trophy, a men's two-wood pairs competition.

Each pair selected by a draw of names, then played a round robin of three games in two different groups. The group winners then proceeded to a final play-off. This resulted in Max Hodges and Sid Keppler beating Kevin Simpson and Brian Cubby in the final.
