Watton (Loch Neaton) Bowls Club held their President's Day and also proudly celebrated their 25th anniversary on Saturday.

They started with a spider, all bowling to a centre jack with Kevin Simpson's wood finishing the nearest.

This was followed by 36 members playing six rinks of mixed triples. The winning trophy went to Gordon Allen, ably supported by Val Baldry and Sid Keppler.

Members and guests then retired to the sports hall for a splendid spread of home-made refreshments.

Special thanks went to president Ron Hurrell and lady president Dorothy Learmonth.

On Sunday the club were represented in the Nowark trophy at GW Staniforth Bowls Club at Thetford. Mundford won this annual event this year.

Importantly, a total of £450 was raised for the region's air ambulance.

A tremendous effort by all participants on the day.

On the previous Monday Watton Ladies travelled away to Connaught Ladies, and were outplayed in all three games.

However, they are fulfilling their fixtures with the adage of the importance of taking part; the bonus, of course, is winning, which with patience will eventually come. They now have a rest week to regain their composure.

On Wednesday in very wet conditions, the EBA men's team exceeded all expectations by returning from Attleborough B with maximum five points. A fine team performance all round.

The final match away to Weeting is scheduled for July 30.

In the Ashill and District League the A team returned to winning ways with a 6-2 home advantage against Thetford C.

The B team playing away at Feltwell A shared the points 4-4.

The C team at home to Ashill B were unfortunate to gain only three points after last-end deciding finishes on two games.

This week the A team are away to Connaught D, the B team home to Harling Rec and the C team are at home to Feltwell B.
