The mighty Swaffham seconds celebrated the return of injury-stricken star hooker, Adam Lamb on Saturday with a crowd-pleasing 29-24 victory over Beccles at North Pickenham Road.

The game started with Swaffham chasing 12 points after Beccles scored two tries in the opening minutes, one of which was converted, but Swaffham fought back with two converted tries of their own to bring the half-time score to 14-12 in the home team favour.

As the second half began, Swaffham scored a further two tries, bringing the score to 24-12, but this time it was Beccles who fought back hard to level the scoreline at 24-24.

With the scores level, there was everything to play for, and Swaffham responded to Beccles with one more try, giving Swaffham a 29-24 lead, but the result was by no means secured, and the battle raged on right until the end.

In the dying minutes of the game, tempers started to flare, and Swaffham were reduced to 14 men as the normally level-headed Stretch Owens had an uncharateristic lapse, which was rewarded with a yellow card, but the team's diminished numbers and loss of captain didn't extinguish the fires burning inside them, and they managed to hold off one final Beccles try attempt right in the dying seconds of the game.

The pressure is off now for the next fortnight, as both Swaffham's first and second teams have friendly games next week. The firsts are away at Fakenham while the seconds play host to Watton.
