Into the final third of the league season and Watton travelled to fellow promotion rivals Great Yarmouth A knowing that victory would keep them in contention for end-of-season honours.

Yarmouth won the toss and decided to bat first on a decent-looking batting wicket, but with some grey clouds offering some swing movement through the air for the bowlers.

Their top order made a solid start, picking up runs without too much threat.

Daniel Burridge made the breakthough in the 12th over, bowling N Harvey for 10 with the score on 39. G Dogget joined A Corey at the wicket and continued to build the innings, both batsmen played some neat shots and kept the scoreboard ticking over.

Watton introduced medium pacer Richard Dicks in the 26th over and he found immediate success, enticing Corey (37) to edge the ball to wicketkeeper Robert Walsh. Yarmouth were 97-2 after 26 overs.

Wickets began tumbling as Dicks made full use of the swinging ball, bowling difficult line and lengths.

But Dogget (66) began to up the scoring rate and added something useful runs in partnership with N Dak (26no).

Yarmouth batted out their 45 overs allocation, setting a challenging total of

176-6. Dicks was the pick of the Watton bowlers, finishing with figures of 4-34.

After tea, Yarmouth's pace bowlers made life difficult for Watton's opening batsmen. Will Oakey was bowled by N Harvey for only 2.

Skipper Bruno Norman joined keeper Walsh adding 50 for the second wicket before Walsh was caught off the bowling of spinner Johnson for 12.

Norman looked in magnificent form, hitting the ball to all corners of the ground. He reached 50 in quick time, then continued to savage the Yarmouth bowling attack.

Lewis Wilkins joined Norman with Watton needing another 50 runs off over 20 overs. Norman's maiden hundred last week was matched by an even better ton this Saturday.

He and Wilkins knocked off the required runs in less than seven overs, with Norman finishing not out on 138.

Watton won comfortably by six wickets to earn 23 league points.

Watton are back home at Watton Sports Centre on Saturday, hosting Aldborough A and looking to keep up the pressure on the three teams above them.

This season looks like it's going to go right to the wire.
