North Pickenham Road was bustling with activity on Saturday, as both Swaffham's 1st and 2nd teams were at home, playing host to a weekend of friendlies.

The 1st XV took on Norwich, while the seconds took on local rivals Dereham.

On the lower pitch, the 2nd XV began slowly, but soon found their footing in the first half by building up an 8-0 lead against the visitors. However, the second half saw Dereham fight back and tip the scales in their favour to bring the scoreline to 8-13.

Swaffham began a determined retaliation, but it was too little too late, and despite ending the game firmly in Dereham's half with the visitors on the defensive, Swaffham were unable to score before the final whistle.

Meanwhile, the 1st XV were writing a different story on the upper pitch, as they began strongly against Norwich, quickly clocking up a 14-0 lead by the end of the first half.

As the second half began, Swaffham made the mistake of giving Norwich an inch, which they repaid by taking a mile and bringing the score to 14-29.

This left the Swaffham lads reeling somewhat, but with time still on the clock, it was clear that the fight wasn't over yet. Swaffham dug deep and fought back to bring the score to 26-29, and in the final seconds of the game, one more unconverted try brought the final score to 31-29 in Swaffham's favour.

Next week, Swaffham 1st travel to Felixstowe for a league game while the 2nds are at home to UEA's Trojans.
