THETFORD AC's juniors competed in the prestigious Eastern Region Championships in Cambridge with U15 field event ace Georgina Howe taking a starring role.

Starting off in the hammer, Georgina managed a personal best of 31.40m to come second. In the discus, she really pulled it out of the bag, smashing her previous pb by over 3m to win the competition in 30.66m to become Eastern Region Champion.

This now ranks Georgina seventh in the national rankings for discus and 13th for the hammer. The discus win has now enabled her to compete at the National AAA Championships in August.

And Leanne Parker (U17 female) finished a creditable fourth in the 100m heats in 14.28, had a long jump of 4.39m and won the triple jump in a championship best performance of 8.76m.

Changeable weather conditions throughout the day made the going challenging at times, nevertheless Thetford AC athletes managed to acquit themselves well.

In the sprints, Daniel Howe, who had a very tough heat, finished a creditable fourth in 16.09. Likewise, U13 girl Isabella Manning acquitted herself well with a 14.4 100m and a 29.87 200m.

In the U15 girls' sprints, Elisha Bowers powered down the track to gain a magnificent personal best of 15.86 in the 100m.

Also in the U15 category, Tom Busson finished the 100m in 14.42.

Megan Norry, a novice in the hurdles, did herself proud with an excellent 17.78 in the 80m hurdles.

Jack Firman in the U17 category just failed to qualify for the 100m final in 12.2 seconds.

In the middle distance events Megan Norry completed the 1500m in a time of 5:37.

Joe Kirton (U15 boys), also competing in the 1500m, finished seventh in 5:15.

Tom Francis, who made a last-minute decision to compete after a race the day before, acquitted himself well with a time of 4:45 for eighth place in the final.
