YET another good week for Watton squash teams.

Unbeaten Division Two leaders Watton I look unstoppable as they travelled to Cromer and came away with a 20-0 whitewash. Vince Somers was involved in the best match of the night, having to work hard for the last game. Even so he came through 3-0. Ian Thompson and Jonathan Pearson were never troubled during their 3-0 straight game wins. Alan Soame cruised to the same score line and first string Simon Howling had an easy 3-0 win against a young opponent.

Fourth-placed Watton II did the first team a favour by inflicting a first defeat on second placed visitors East Anglia IV.

Chris Haythorpe fought back from narrowly losing the first 10-8 to take the next three games 9-3, 9-2, 9-4 to come through 3-1. Bobby Hunt came back from 7-0 down to nick the first game 10-8. Bobby then faded losing the next three 9-4, 9-7, 9-6 to go down 3-1. Dev Mahatme had a close second game but won 9-3, 10-8, 9-4 in straight games.

Kevin Blake started slowly losing the first 9-1. Kev forced the pace and cruised the next two 9-0, 9-4. He then lost the fourth 9-2 and his recent bad luck continued when he was forced to retire injured at 0-2 in the fifth, thereby losing 3-2.

First-string Paul Goodchild used a combination of power and deft touches to seal a 16-7 Watton victory with a 9-5, 10-8, 9-5 straight game win.

Next up is the return local derby as the second team look to improve on the early season 20-2 hammering handed out by their first team rivals.
