Thetford Dolphins travelled to Stowmarket to compete in the final round of the Suffolk Summer League.The Dolphins were recently promoted to Division One and did much better than expected by finishing second overall.

The Dolphins were recently promoted to Division One and did much better than expected by finishing second overall. The boys' team did exceptionally well in achieving the position of top boy's team.

Final results: 1 Deben (229), 2 Thetford (208), 3 Stowmarket (192), 4 Halstead (185).

In the 12/u age group Taylor Dean, 11, swam really well when he finished in second place in the 50m freestyle and smashed the current age group club record in the amazing time of 32.18. Swimming in his own age group Taylor finished in second in 50m fly, 50m freestyle and third in 50m backstroke.

Matthew Vertigans, 13, impressively secured three firsts in the 100m freestyle, fly, in a new personal best (pb) time and in backstroke, while Ben Kleinau, also 13, cruised into a superb first place for both the 100m breaststroke and individual medley (IM) in a pb.

Murray Burt, 11, swam with confidence when he won the 50m breaststroke race and finished in second for the 50m fly, and came in third for the 50m backstroke.

Murray also came fourth for the 50m breaststroke in the 12/u age group. Murray joined up with Taylor, Ben and Matthew and stormed into a fantastic first place in the 4x50m medley relay and finished second in the 4x50m freestyle relay.

Rhys Vertigans, 10, had a terrific swim when he won the 50m breaststroke in a new pb, while team-mate Luke Collins (10) won the 50m freestyle with ease and finished in third in both the 50m backstroke and fly races (pb). Luke teamed up with Rhys, Murray and Taylor for the 4x50m freestyle and medley relays, finishing second in both.

Elle Kleinau, 11, swam really well when she finished in a fine second place for both the 50m breaststroke, and fly races. Elle also came fourth in 50m breaststroke in the 12/u age group.

Fiona Byford, 10, swam well when she finished in second in 50m breaststroke while gaining a new pb, and then went on to finish in third for both 50m freestyle (pb) and fly.

Alice Smith, 11, finished in third position for both the 50m freestyle and backstroke races before joining forces with Grace McGill, 9, Fiona and Elle to finish in first place for 4x50m medley relay and third for the 4x50m freestyle race.

Victoria Root, 12, finished in third position for three events, 50m back, fly (pb) and freestyle races. Morgan Burt, 13, swam in three 100m races where she finished in second for the fly and gained a new pb and finished in third for both the IM (pb) and the breaststroke races.

Thirteen-year-old Zoe Douthwaite gained two new pbs when she finished in third for both the 100m freestyle and backstroke races.
