Swaffham Town win 7-2 to get season back on track

The victory saw the Pedlars put an indifferent run of form behind them to move to within five points of third placed Framlingham in Division One of the Thurlow Nunn League, albeit from three more games.

The afternoon started with a minute's silence in memory of Paul Thorpe, a regular supporter at Shoemakers Lane who recently passed away.

Joe Jackson got the first goal of his hat-trick on 15 minutes, rounding the keeper and slotting home from wide on the right hand side. Matthew Prudence made it two just eight minutes later with an over-head kick from 10 yards out for the goal of the game.

Cornard kept things interesting, getting one back on 33 minutes, but Jackson restored the gap on 38 minutes, smashing home from 14 yards after being played through. He completed his hat-trick on the stroke of half-time, passing the ball into the net wide of the keeper.

Alex Vincent made it five 10 minutes into the second half, beating the keeper with an effort which went in off the post. Cornard were awarded a penalty on the hour, the conversion bringing the score back to 5-2.

Vincent bagged his second two minutes later, smashing the ball into the left hand bottom corner from 12 yards. The final goal came in the 75th minute, Vincent turning provider and playing in Prudence to get his brace by thumping home from 18 yards.

On Saturday, weather permitting, second place Whitton United visit Shoemakers Lane for what is a must-win game for the hosts.

Swaffhame Reserves picked up an excellent 1-0 victory at top of the division Buxton, Connor Germaney scoring for the Pedlars. Next up they face another tough game against second place Gorleston Reserves at Emerald Park.

The Under-18s could only come away from North Walsham with a point after a disappointing performance for their standards. Aaron Smith and Connor Germaney put the young Pedlars in front but Walsham upping their game to level. This week they meet Downham Town from the West Division in the Thurlow Nunn Youth Cup competition. Downham are eighth in their league while the Pedlars are sitting pretty, top of the North Division.

The Veterans are at home to Costessey Sports on Sunday afternoon.
