Youngsters proved their community spirit at the weekend when they cleaned up their home town.

On Saturday, Watton's youth focus group took to the streets with bin bags and litter pickers, to help make a difference as part of the Breckland Partnership 'Pride in Breckland' campaign.

Over the next few months the district council will deliver a wide range of projects designed to create a strong sense of pride among the communities it serves. And some local residents are already taking positive steps to back the initiative.

Jan Godfrey, one of the Watton clean-up organisers, said: "The group came to us and said they wanted to do it in support of the Pride in Breckland campaign."

She aded: "About 98pc of young people in Watton are terrific, lovely, helpful young people.

But there's always 2pc that spoil it for the rest. It's a very small number that do bad things. The town looks so much better now and hopefully people will realise the effort the young adults put into it."

Yesterday, Griston Community Committee was carrying out a village clean-up for the Church Road area, followed by a barbecue.
