A GROUP of youngsters from Watton are working together to make an awesome difference in their neighbourhood.

The 12 young people have joined the Activities With Engagement Summer Of Mega Events (AWESOME), a group of dedicated volunteers aged between 13 to 17 years old.

A number of partner agencies have supported this new group including The Surge, Breckland Council and Watton Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT).

The AWESOME youngsters have helped add momentum to Breckland Council's nine-week Breckland Blitz by carrying out litter picks in the Millennium Garden, Norwich Road, the War Memorials and around The Surge. The council provided the volunteers with litter picking sticks, high visibility vests, gloves and bags. In total, the group collected six bags of litter.

Rob Walker, Breckland Council Sustainable Communities Manager said: “It's fantastic to see another group of young people getting involved in the Breckland Blitz. Their hard work has given the town a real spring clean and has made a noticeable improvement to the environment.”

On Friday the AWESOME group helped other young people with the free rock climbing event organised by officers from the SNT.

Watton PCSO Tonya Winsley said: “The AWESOME group are taking part in a number of community building activities. We are working with the team of youngsters and partner agencies to make Watton an even safer and cleaner place to live, work and visit.”
