Plans for when the Queen or a senior public figure dies are set to be approved by a town council.

Swaffham Town Council will consider its protocol at its full town council meeting on Wednesday, July 10.

The plan, called Operation London Bridge, would see councillors wear black arm bands, black rosettes and mourning bags at official meetings and events and calls on them to respect the mood of the nation.

The same action would be taken in the event of the death of a member of the royal family including the children of Prince William and Prince Harry as well as the current, or former prime minister, serving mayor or honorary citizen of Swaffham.

The Union Flag outside of the town hall, in London Street, would be flown at half-mast and a book of condolence would be available to the public displayed on a black cloth.

It also states where black clothing can be purchased from.
