FORGET algebra and fractions - youngsters at Thompson Primary School, near Watton, tried out skiing and snowboarding as part of a problem solving day linking the maths and PE curriculum.
'Everyone had a fantastic time even the teachers and caretaker!' said headteacher Joanne Weight, after the visit by the Norfolk Ski Club instructors with their dry slope.

'For the past three years we have organised a problem solving day and we do this to raise the profile of maths and encourage children to see the fun in maths and that it is more than just sums in books.'
She said the children developed important learning skills of resilience, taking risks, teamwork and a sharp focusing on finding solutions.

'We always try to have a wow factor which has been a climbing wall for the last two years but this year we had a ski slope! We are the first school in Norfolk to use this.'
Mrs Weight said: 'We planned tubing for foundation and key stage one children and skiing or snowboarding for key stage two children.'
Other activities included working as a team moving toxic waste across an obstacle course, shipwreck, musical notes on the interactive whiteboard and moving electronic toys around a maze.
