A COMMUNITY radio station which hit the airwaves two months ago is already attracting a global following.
A COMMUNITY radio station which hit the airwaves two months ago is already attracting a global following.
At a celebratory lunch to thank the dozens of people who worked to make Wayland Radio a success studio manager David Hatherly announced that listeners had been tuning in from as far away as Australia via the internet.
He said the station, which is based in Ashill, near Watton, and broadcasts to villages across Wayland, was also attracting national interest due to its dedicated volunteers and community ethos.
He said: 'Wayland Radio has put this part of Norfolk on the broadcasting map.

'There are lots of people watching what we are doing and we are destroying the myth that you have to be someone special to do broadcasting.
'We are doing radio the hard way. The easy way is to just play music but we want the local content.'

Mr Hatherly said the station, which is run entirely by volunteers, was already producing a high standard of broadcasting but he hoped that over the five years for which Wayland Radio has been granted a licence the standard would get even higher.
