The GCSE and BTEC achievements of more than 100 pupils were celebrated at Wayland Academy Norfolk's annual awards evening.

Following a year of record-breaking results at the TEN Group Academy, in Watton, the event provided an opportunity to recognise pupils' individual subject achievements and to celebrate their progression on to A Levels and college courses at a wide range of sixth forms, colleges and training providers.

Twenty three awards were presented to pupils for their outstanding achievements and progress in subjects ranging from art to travel and tourism. They included awards for the new GCSEs in English literature, English language and maths, which were graded for the first time using the 9-1 grading system.

In addition to the subject awards, three pupils were presented with awards for their overall achievements and contribution to the academy.

The award for progress went to Mariana Ferreira, who was described as having had 'an amazing journey' at the Academy, as she significantly exceeded her target grades in most of her subjects.

Georgia Schofield, who was a member of the junior leadership team, was presented with the award for school life. Georgia was praised for being 'a superb ambassador for all that we do and a brilliant role model for her peers.'

The principal's award went to Hannah Kemp, who achieved eight A* and A grades in her GCSEs.

Seventeen-year-old Hannah, from Griston, is now studying A Levels in mathematics, further mathematics, chemistry and biology at Wymondham College.

Hannah, who plans to go on to do a degree in mathematics and then train to become an actuary, said: 'I felt proud to receive the principal's award, it was nice to have all of the hard work recognised.'

Reflecting on her five years as a pupil at Wayland Academy Norfolk, she added: 'The best thing was the enthusiasm that a lot of the teachers had for their subjects, which they passed on to me.'

Wayland Academy Norfolk's principal Glen Allott said: 'All of our Year 11 leavers can be very proud of their achievements, which collectively produced a record-breaking set of GCSE results for the academy this summer.'
