Watton Town Council has voted to reduce its council tax precept for the next financial year.

Though the reduction is only small the council says that the real term decrease is much larger when it is taken into account that there has been no inflationary increase.

The decision means that the average Band D property owner will now pay about £61.25 per year to the town council

Town clerk Jacqui Seal said the reduction was a demonstration of the council's “sound financial management”.

She said: “All the projects we have planned and are still going ahead and have been budgeted for.

“Money we got for taking over responsibility for the toilets has been invested wisely and the interest is enough to pay for the annual cleaning bill for them.”
