The new Mayor of Watton has said he comes into the position with 'great intentions and aspirations'.
Councillor Stan Hebborn, who was vice chairman of Watton Town Council, was elected as new mayor for 2017/18 and has taken over the position from previous incumbent, Beryl Bunning.
Mr Hebborn, who has served as a town councillor for three years, has said there are a number of 'exciting things' he is ready to tackle during his mayoral year.
He said: 'I come into office with great intentions and aspirations - whether or not I can achieve them will be seen.
'I want to improve community involvement. One thing I have noticed over the past couple of years is our organisations rely on volunteers but are suffering because of the lack of volunteers.
'Without volunteers some of these organisations could end up closing.
'What does surprise me is the amount of people who say to me, 'I want to get involved in something but I don't know what is out there'.
'I intend to put forward a notion of a volunteer's week to increase awareness of Watton's voluntary organisations.'
Born in Brighton, Mr Hebborn was in the RAF for 12 years, where he spent time stationed in Germany. After leaving the military he joined the police force in Surrey and saw 21 years of service and five commendations.
Both of his children are also serving police officers.
When he retired in 2011 Mr Hebborn and his wife Susan, who also a town councillor, moved to Watton.
'The first thing we noticed was the warm welcome the people of Watton give people who visit here or just move in,' he said. 'I wanted to be part of that community and get involved. For a while I was a Norfolk county councillor and after two years being a county councillor I felt I had achieved what I was elected to do.'
Mr Hebborn has selected the PACT Animal Sanctuary and Wayland Men's Shed Project as his chosen charities.
He added: 'I want to support the community's wishes in regards to open space. We want to have an influence on development in the town. My view is if you cannot stop it you can steer it. Hopefully we can have an influence on what goes where.'
Councillor Tina Kiddell was elected as the vice chairman.
