YOUNGSTERS from a Watton primary school bagged a big cheque last Friday in exchange for performing the honours at the official launch of the town's new Co-operative store.
YOUNGSTERS from a Watton primary school bagged a big cheque last Friday in exchange for performing the honours at the official launch of the town's new Co-operative store.
The High Street shop, which was formerly a Somerfield, is one of the first in the country to be rebranded after The Co-operative Group's �1.56bn takeover of the Somerfield supermarket chain.
The Co-operative says the deal has helped secure 35 jobs at the Watton store as well as thousands of others across the country.
The ribbon to open the rebranded shop was cut by youngsters from Westfield Infant and Nursery School to cheers and applause from spectators.
The youngsters were then presented with a �200 donation for their school funds by store manager Jason Allan.
He said: 'We are very much a community retailer so it is appropriate that our local school is involved in our special event.
'We are delighted pupils have played a central role in the re-launch of our store.'
