Father and daughter team Martin and Anna Neave from Watton completed the Great North Run in Newcastle on Sunday in aid of national charity Meningitis Research Foundation.

Martin finished in 1hr 40mins and Anna in 1hr 51mins. Both were pleased as they beat their target times of 1hr 45mins and 2hrs respectively. Martin (61) finished 3rd in his starting group and 23rd in the age 60 - 64 category.

Martin and Anna were fundraising in memory of Martin's daughter and Anna's sister Caroline who died from meningitis in 2006 aged eighteen. Caroline died two days before receiving A Level grades which would have given her entry to her first choice University.

Martin said: “The Great North Run was a fantastic experience. None of the fun-runs I've done recently compare to it. I'd urge anyone who is thinking about running a half-marathon to sign up for it! Anna and I were delighted to beat our target times and enjoyed the fantastic atmosphere in Newcastle on the day.”

Martin and Anna hope to raise over £500 in sponsorship from family, friends and work colleagues.
