Remembrance parade ‘did the town proud’ says mayor

I'm writing this with a very glad and positive heart as I'm in the wake of the remembrance service, and what a service and parade it was. Many thanks to all who helped me to organise it. I have never seen such a turnout.

The parade head arrived at the Sports Centre and I was still at the traffic lights marching with six military representatives from Honnington, Lakenheath and Marham. That was how long it was.

The whole day made me so very proud to be Mayor of this extraordinary town.

I say extraordinary as I am still amazed by the community spirt that is prevalent here. We really pull out the stops when needed.

As I write this, preparations are still underway for the festive market which will be a distant memory by the time you read this. I hope we have the turnout again for that and that everyone has a great time.

A lot of work goes into the organising of these events as I'm sure you are aware. Councillors are busy doing the running around and trying to bring events for the community.

Stan Hebborn worked hard to bring you the fireworks which were amazing and the evening there went well too, shame about the weather. Beryl Bunning is the main organiser for the festive market and works tirelessly to bring a great event to the town.

This month I've been to a meeting at Fakenham to look at how they work their market and how they have regenerated their high street.

I am constantly trying to find ways where we can make our high street and town the bustling hub that it was in years past. I will not stop until we have made a difference.

Watton is working with Swaffham to look at all angles and hope to bring some fresh ideas to our towns. This sharing of ideas is working well.

As are ideas that you, the public give me on my market stall, which I hasten to add the dates of me being there are changing for the next few weeks because of my work commitments, I'll be there on November 21, December 12 and December 19, and at both December ones I'll have mince pies.

I digress, back to ideas, I would love it if when I see people on my stall, we could start a wish list of what we would like to see, it is helpful for the neighbourhood plan, but it is also helpful to me when I go into different meetings.

For instance, we recently had a meeting with George Freeman MP who is acutely aware of the lack of infrastructure that we have in Watton, we are hoping to work together on a few ideas to hopefully help bring Watton to the forefront and look towards a brighter future.

I have also had meetings with the Youth Advisory board who I feel very strongly about, as we certainly need more youth provision in this town. I'm hopeful once again that we can bring something to fruition from these meetings.

I will fill you all in as I know more.
