Pupils at Watton Junior School have been working in partnership with the bakery as part of National Craft Baker Week.

Every child at the school decorated a cardboard template of a gingerbread man, with designs ranging from Indiana Jones to belly dancers and even a skeleton.

The entries were then judged by David Langchild from the Bakehouse and Teresa Grant, business development manager for CSM (UK) Ltd (suppliers of bakery ingredients).

After judging the entries, Ms Grant said: 'We thought the standard of the pictures was outstanding and it was extremely difficult to judge as there were so many creative designs.'

A winner was eventually chosen from each class and presented with a certificate and a set of gingerbread cookie cutters. From the 10 class winners, Hope Ashmore's entry, decorated as an astronaut, was chosen as the overall winner. She received a book voucher, donated by the bakery.

The story of the gingerbread man was also the theme for a class assembly, with children re-enacting the classic tale, involving a child-sized gingerbread man jumping out of a cardboard, life-size oven.

The week's activities continued with a visit from Teresa Grant and Paul Muncila, who provided a goodie-bag of edible items for each child in Year 6 and gingerbread cookies for them to decorate with icing, sweets and currants.

The children ended the afternoon with a quiz and had an opportunity to ask the visitors about the baking industry.
