With enthusiasm for local produce still strong in Breckland the organisers of Watton Farmers' Market are inviting more people to take up stalls.

The monthly market is looking to attract more small producers and others who make things such as jams and crafts as a hobby and who want to earn a little extra cash.

While some farmers' markets are struggling as a result of the recession Watton's is still going strong thanks to its strategy of keeping stall rents low, at just 10 a time, and ensuring that there is little or no overlap between what stalls are selling, which ensures each trader can earn a decent profit.

Recently both Caister farmers' market and the one held at Barsham, near Beccles, were forced to shut and the credit crunch is forcing many to tighten their purse strings and seek out cheap goods at the supermarkets.

But Jan Godfrey, from the Wayland Partnership which runs the market, said Watton's was still stong.

She said: 'Stall holders can be anyone from small producers to people who are good at making jam or chutneys as a hobby.

'We need people who sell preserves, poultry, dairy and bread as well.'

The market is held in Watton on the first Saturday of every month.
