A quiet neighbourhood has been left shaken after footage captured a man stealing from cars and attempting to get into more.
The man can be seen at about 2.30am approaching vehicles in Longmere Road, Watton, on Friday, January 31, and trying to get inside. On one occasion he was able to open a car and spent up to four minutes searching for items to take and even opened the boot to look for more valuables.
Katie Maynard's is one of the cars that the thief targeted. The mother-of-two has lived on the road for seven years. She said the neighbourhood was normally safe.
The 33-year-old said: "I used to work at the Co-op and I have even left the door open for four hours and still it was safe, it was that kind of neighbourhood. I love it here, it's always been safe.
"Our neighbours told us to have a look at the CCTV because her husband noticed the visors on his car had been put down.
"We saw the man look in our car, the boot, and then move on to the next house. I'm fuming, the fact someone can go into my car and do it so very quietly."
Ms Maynard said only small change was taken.
A police spokesman said: "Police are investigating a report of theft, and another of attempted theft from motor vehicles in Langmere Road, Watton, on Friday 31 January 2020, at approximately 2:30am.
"A small amount of cash was taken from one vehicle. Enquiries are ongoing."
Neighbour Tim Barnes, 65, was thankful the thief was not able to get into his caravan.
"It's the kind of neighbourhood where you can leave your stuff unlocked," he said. "I was worried because of our caravan, we have a lot of our stuff in there.
"If our caravan isn't there, it's obvious that we aren't here. We saw the video and he tries to get into my wife's car then just continues walking round.
"It makes me angry, it's a nice quiet area with brilliant neighbours. It's worrying - he was mooching around as if it was his own car."
