Neighbours have paid tribute to a couple in their 70s who died in a car crash.

Andrew and Jean Crawford, of Saham Road, Watton, died when their white Kia Rio was involved in a collision with a blue Peugeot 206 on the A1075, at Hockham on Wednesday, August 28.

The driver of the Peugeot, a woman in her 30s, was taken to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with internal injuries.

Mr Crawford was an avid member of the shooting community in Norfolk and made many friends through the sport. He was also a game-keeper and kept up-to-date with the industry.

Neighbour Barry Cator knew the couple for more than 40 years.

He said: "It's just terrible and tragic. When you go out you don't expect that you want be coming home.

"They are a couple I've known for many years, ever since I went clay shooting. Andrew was a part of the shooting community and was a game-keeper.

"We would go to on shoots and he would bring his children to help out. But what can you say? It's just a terrible thing to happen."

George Fuller moved to Watton in 2003 after serving in the RAF in Manchester.

He said: "I didn't know them well but I knew them as neighbours, if we saw each other we talked in the street.

"I knew Andrew as I'm a member of the shooting community and it's not a large community in Norfolk.

"He would ask how things were going and if people were still working in the game-keeper community as they move around a lot.

"You can never predict when these things will happen."

The Crawford family released a statement through Norfolk Police.

It said: "Tragically taken on Wednesday, August 28, in the case of a road traffic accident on the A1075 at Great Hockham, Andrew and Jean Crawford, parents, grandparents and great grandparents. Will be sadly missed by all that knew them."

Calls have been made by the Wretham Parish Council to make improvements to the road after five fatal crashes in five years.
