Norwich United took time off from league duties to ease into the semi-finals of the Norfolk Senior Cup.

The Planters showed no mercy to their opponents, Acle United, the reigning Anglian Combination League champions, hammering them 7-1.

Matt Daniels opened the scoring from the penalty spot for United, with Ben Thompson, Adam Hipperson (two) and Matt Blake making it 5-0 at the break. Hipperson completed his hat-trick before Tom Amis pulled one back for the visitors, with Jamie Speller completing the scoreline in the final minute.

The semi-final line-up should, weather permitting, be completed this week, with Wroxham at home to King's Lynn Town Reserves and Gorleston entertaining Thetford tomorrow night, and Spixworth taking on visiting Dereham Town on Wednesday.

In league action, there was a welcome win for Fakenham Town, who came away from relegation rivals Whitton United with all three points after a 3-1 win.

The hosts went ahead after just eight minutes, but Fakenham levelled before the break through Danny Williams, with second-half goals from Kyle Plumb and substitute Jake Wiseman, who will be claiming the goal although his flicked shot was going wide until it deflected off a defender.

The victory means Whitton remain in bottom spot, with the Ghosts opening up a five-point gap to go level with Thetford Town, who didn't play.

Swaffham Town went down 5-2 at home to title contenders Godmanchester Rovers, but the scoreline was perhaps unfair on the Ghosts.

The visitors took the lead in the 17th minute and made it two just after the half hour. Swaffham countered and got one back in the 36th minute, Jake Platten rising at the back post to head home. Richard Cornwall levelled on the stroke of half-time, stabbing the ball home through a host of players in the box.

Nine minutes into the second half Godmanchester made it three and while Swaffham adjusted their shape to try to counter, they couldn't quite manager to find an equaliser. The visitors added two more goals in the last five minutes, while the Pedlars had two big penalty appeals turned down.

Great Yarmouth Town's march back to the big time of Eastern Counties League football has taken another giant step.

The Bloaters smashed Cornard United 5-1 in a First Division clash at the Wellesley – a week after hammering nine past Needham Market.

Cornard went into the match on a run of poor form, despite having beaten the Bloaters earlier in the season, and were seen off after goals from Chris Holmes (2), Declan McAvoy, Sean Perfect and Ady Ager. Yarmouth remain third, a point behind Ely City but 12 behind leaders Wivenhoe.

King's Lynn Town Reserves are four points back in fourth after a 1-1 draw at Diss Town. Danny Self scored for Diss, with Karl Tansley on target for the Linnets.

Downham Town were beaten 1-0 at Halstead Town in the First Division Knockout Cup.
