The players of Fakenham Town have another chance to secure their Clipbush Park future as Wayne Anderson prepares to wield the axe.

The Ghosts – who secured Premier Division safety on the final day last season – have lost four matches in a row ahead of this afternoon's clash at Brantham Athletic.

The latest defeat came on Saturday after Anderson had said he was 'looking to spice things up over the next few weeks' prior to kick-off – a philosophy further underlined by the crushing 5-1 home loss that followed against Mildenhall Town.

Fakenham's boss said: 'Some of the boys just aren't cutting the mustard and I'm looking at bringing some more lads into our relatively small squad.

'I'm looking to get some younger, stronger lads in — ones that can give us something extra.'

Midfielder Sam Lawn, once of Dereham Town, arrived last week as Fakenham try to overcome the absence of key players Matt Franks, Matt Gilchrist, Stephen Harvey, Sam Garner.

Weekend goalscorer Kyle Plumb had been absent in the previous fixture against Felixstowe & Walton United.

Anderson added: 'With five senior lads out, you really notice a difference. Not just in the way they play the game, but also talking to the younger lads as well.'

It's a far rosier picture at Gorleston – who have won three of their opening four games and sit second. Ricci Butler's Greens host Newmarket Town, third, in an early-season cracker.

Elsewhere, Thetford Town – who have suffered back-to-back defeats after successive victories – visit Ely City. Their first loss of the league season came at home to Gorleston, by a goal to nil.

But Tuesday night's setback was even more galling given the manner in which it arrived.

Danny White's side took the lead at Newmarket Town and, despite being pegged back, seemed on course to earn a point against a side who have started the term excellently.

That was until White's former King's Lynn Town team-mate Jamie Thurlbourne bent a stunning left-footed drive from the edge of the box into the top corner to break the Brecklanders' heart.

Elsewhere, slow-starting Kirkley & Pakefield host Haverhill Rovers, Great Yarmouth Town travel to Long Melford and Swaffham Town entertain Ipswich Wanderers.

In the First Division, second-placed Diss Town are at Stowmarket Town, sixth, while Wisbech St Mary, fourth, make the journey to mid-table Halstead Town.

Diss have won four from six while St Mary, one of four newcomers to the division, are two points back having won three from the same number of matches.

March Town United are away to Debenham LC, Dereham Town Reserves entertain Whitton United and King's Lynn Town Reserves have a home match against Haverhill Borough.

In the United Counties League Premier Division, Wisbech Town will look to build on lifting the (2015/16) Cambs Invitation Cup in midweek when they host lower-level Potton United in the preliminary round of the League Cup.
