SWAFFHAM Rotary club opened its doors to local businesses, charities and potential members at an open evening.

More than 70 members and visitors were welcomed by President Steve Ward and given to several short presentations about what Rotary does, the various charities it supports locally, nationally and worldwide and the fun they have by helping others.

During the evening a donation was made to the Swaffham and Litcham Home Hospice, which will be used for training DVDs and books for staff and volunteers. The presentation was made by Mr Ward and was received by Peter Wrighton on behalf of the charity.

The current Thanks for Life project dedicated to eradicating polio worldwide was highlighted by the Rotary club members.

This worldwide project is designed to complete the work of polio eradication started by Rotary, the World Health Organisation and UNICEF in 1985.

Today polio remains in only four countries - Nigeria, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. The next three years are critical and final a push is needed to complete the job.
