Public toilets in Swaffham, shut since early this year, are to be reopened after a £115,000 refurbishment tomorrow.

The event will be a double celebration for the town council, which oversaw the refurbishment of the toilets, who will also be marking the official handover of the block from Breckland Council.

From tomorrow the town council will be responsible for the conveniences, at the rear of the town's tourist information centre near the bus station.

They were given a commuted sum of £115,000 to pay for the refurbishment and another £130,000 for maintenance of the toilets over 10 years by Breckland Council.

Town mayor Shirley Matthews will officially re-open the toilets at about 9am tomorrow.

Clerk to the council, Richard Bishop, said: “They have needed refurbishment for quite some time.”
