A BOUTIQUE hotel in the heart of Norfolk has been shortlisted for a European business award after managing to cuts the amount of its waste it sends to landfill to one per cent.
Stratton's Hotel in Swaffham is one of just 11 firms in the UK to go through to the European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE).
It was picked by the Royal Society for the encouragement of the Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) for its environmental management system, which reduced landfill waste to one percent by recycling or reusing other waste.
Its surface water capture and use for cleaning, encouragement of guests travelling without cars, minimisation of sound and light pollution and ethical and environmental sourcing of food ingredients was also noted.
Judging for the EU awards will take place in Madrid, Spain, from March 10 to 12 and the shortlist will be announced then.
The final Awards presentation will take place in June.
Vanessa Scott, director of the hotel, said: 'We are delighted to be representing the UK in the European Business Awards for the Environment; and thankful to Sustainable Cities who were responsible for putting us forward through their feeder scheme.
'It is a tough challenge for our industry to address our environmental impact but one everyone should be looking to improve because it benefits the quality of goods and services you provide as well as making a huge difference to bottom line.'
