A BRECKLAND town is hosting a new weekly farmers' market to run alongside its traditional Saturday market.

The first of the farmers' markets was held on Saturday, and now every Saturday in Swaffham there will be a farmers' market at the war memorial close to the Market Place.

It is a welcome return to the town after the previous monthly farmers' market stopped in Swaffham about two years ago.

Town council market committee member Sheila Lister said: “The farmers' market suffered last time from being monthly and midweek; this time we are using the Saturday because of our regular market so that everyone can benefit.

“We care so much about doing everything we can to keep our market as full as we can, the addition of the farmers' market will help us to attract more people to the town.”

The relaunch of the farmers' market is partially funded by Breckland's Local Strategic Partnership which awarded Swaffham a grant of ?10,600 for its market traditions bid.

Anybody interested in having a stall at the farmers' market should contact Swaffham Town Council's deputy clerk Michelle Meyrick on 01760 722922 or by e-mailing michelle@swaffhamtowncouncil.gov.uk

It costs £16 per week for a stall. There is also an introductory offer where people booking a stall for four weeks will get a fifth week for free.
