A field of burning crops in mid Norfolk was tackled by four crews from across the county.

Fire engines from Swaffham, Watton, Dereham, and King’s Lynn were called to the incident on Swaffham’s West Acre Road on Monday, July 2.

They were called out at 1.50pm and were on scene within nine minutes, after receiving reports that 2,000 metres of standing crops had gone up in flames.

Hoses were used to extinguish the blaze, which sent smoke billowing high above the field.

A spokesperson for Norfolk Fire and Rescue said: “We were on the scene at 1.59pm.

“The fire was out by 2.41pm and the last crews left the field at 4.49pm.

The blaze was not considered a major incident.

Adam Dury, from Norwich forecaster Weatherquest, said: “There is a yellow heatwave warning issued for the UK.”

The Met Office expects temperatures to remain hot and dry overnight.
