Contract catering firm Edwards & Blake has won the contract to provide five cluster primary schools near Dereham with school lunches.

Swaffham-based Edwards & Blake was selected ahead of other national contract caterers to provide lunch to more than 1,000 pupils in primary schools at Yaxham, Mattishall, Toftwood, Scarning and Beeston.

Shirley Edwards, managing director, said: 'We pride ourselves on offering high standards, with all produce sourced as locally as possible of each client. We beat off strong competition from national contract catering firms, which shows how schools are searching for high quality food for their children. We provide school food that is fresh, varied and offers pupils a nutritious and delicious menu every school day.

'This contract win is a promising development for the business. Our mission is to provide a flexible and tailored approach, offering a cost-effective and dynamic service to clients. Although we 'do-different' we will always stay true to our core values and that's what I think the schools liked.'

Anthony Chapman, head teacher of Mattishall Primary School, said: 'We are actively encouraging our children to become more involved with making healthy choices. We have introduced a salad bar which has been very successful and encourages children to try new things. Our food council (14 of our children) meet with lunchtime staff and the cook to talk about the quality of the food and the menu available.'

As a welcome to the children, Edward and Blake's Captain Crunch visited Mattishall Primary School on June 10 to spread the healthy eating message to the pupils.
