Customer support service to be launched when new benefits system rolled out

A new service is being launched to provide support to residents when the new benefits system is rolled out.

The interim service from Breckland Council will enable people to seek advice as well as making use of computers which will be needed to submit Universal Credit applications.

Universal Credit will replace a number of other existing benefits, such as child tax credit, housing benefit, and working tax credit.

The service will be launched during the week commencing June 4 and will be available two half-days at Attleborough, Watton and Swaffham libraries. In Attleborough people can visit on Mondays from 2pm until 5pm and Thursdays from 10am until 2pm.

The service will be held in Swaffham Tuesdays, from 10am until 1pm, and Fridays from 1pm until 5pm.

And on Mondays, from 10am until 1pm, and Wednesdays, from 1pm until 5pm, in Watton.

The roll-out of Universal Credit has been delayed by the Department for Work and Pensions until mid-June for Dereham and its surrounding areas and mid-September for Thetford and the surrounding areas.

The new interim service, which is expected to be operated for 12 months, will mean support remains available in each of Breckland’s towns to help people transition to the new Universal Credit system and improve their digital skills.
