What a difference a day makes!

On Saturday Watton Carnival organisers were praying for better weather for the big day of the year as the rain fell down.

But by Sunday as carnival day arrived their faith had been rewarded and hundreds of people who packed into the High Street for a wide variety of activities were bathed in warm sunshine.

There was a medieval theme to carnival day and a large number of children from local schools and nurseries dressed up to take part in the main parade through the centre of the town.

It was led by a horse- drawn carriage carrying carnival princesses.

The High Street was lined with a wide range of stalls and games and the live entertainment included music, a medieval street fight, juggling, demon-strations from local groups, racing cars and a rocket launch.

Carnival chairman Steve Jolly said it was the third event running where there has been wet weather beforehand but fine conditions on carnival day.

“Yesterday we were praying hard it would be fine and we have been really blessed.

“We have a really good mix of things here. It has been hard work but we've really enjoyed it.”

Mayor Paul McCarthy said he was delighted with the turnout and especially the number of young people involved and he said it reflected a very positive outlook for the town.

The carnival is put together by a small committee and Mr Jolly appealed for anyone else who could help in the future to ring him on 01366 727197.
