Stephen Fry is to stay on Twitter after making peace with another user of the micro-blogging site who called his posts 'boring.'

The 52-year-old actor who lives near Swaffham has more than 900,000 followers on Twitter but he threatened to close his page on Saturday after a fellow Twitter user said 'I understand @stephenfry's tweets but, much as I admire and adore the chap, they are a bit…boring…(sorry Stephen).'

Mr Fry, who is bipolar, responded to the comment by writing: 'You've convinced me. I'm obviously not good enough. I retire from Twitter henceforward. Bye.'

He then wrote on his page: 'Think I may have to give up on Twitter. Too much aggression and unkindness around. Pity. Well it's been fun.'

But he added: 'Well maybe I'll see how I feel in a few days. Very low and depressed at the moment and any drop of meanness makes it so much worse.'

Fans of the actor and presenter attacked his critic online and begged Mr Fry to stay.

His critic later apologised to Mr Fry and said he greatly admired him. He said there had been an overreaction to the comments and that he was 'aghast at how far this has gone.'

Mr Fry then posted on his Twitter page that he had arrived in Los Angeles feeling 'very foolish.'

'Feeling terrible for that poor guy. He had every right to call me boring. Not his fault it caught me at a vulnerable time. Pls be nice to him,' he wrote.

The pair then exchanged tweets and the other user wrote on his Twitter page: 'OK folks, @stephenfry and I have asked for this whole sorry saga to go the way of the dodo, so can we all please get back to normal?'
