A WIND farm is this week involved in trialling a new turbine blade that it is hoped will not be detected by radar.
The blade, known as a stealth blade, has been created by wind turbine manufacturer Vestas and one of the blades will be used at North Pickenham wind farm until Friday.
David Linley, manager of projects at Enertrag UK which runs North Pickenham wind farm, said that one of the main objections the Ministry of Defence and the Civil Aviation Authority has to wind turbines is that they have said the moving blades can be mistaken for aircraft on radars.
He said: 'Vestas has been trying to create a blade that cannot be detected by radar. We are doing a trial at our North Pickenham site for a week and substituting one of our existing blades with a stealth blade.
'We are going to use a mobile radar system to determine whether it can be detected.'
The blade, weighing 35 tonnes and which is 2.5m wide, 4.6m high and 47.5m long, was being transported to the site on Monday.
Between 2pm and 3pm police escorted it from the A140 Suffolk border at Scole to North Pickenham Road, Swaffham.
