An event will be held in Watton this weekend to raise money for a charity which helps the maritime community.

Between 300 and 400 knitted seaman hats, scarves and mittens will decorate St Mary’s Church.

People are encouraged to come along to see the display with part of the money raised going to Seafarers UK - the charity provides support to seafarers in need and their families.

Knitters from across the county have been hard at work for nine months creating the handmade items.

One of the event organisers Paul Weatherill said: “We wanted to raise money for the Seafarers as we have been moved by the plight of them both locally, the crew which got stranded in Great Yarmouth, but nationally.

“We wanted to make people more aware of it.”

The event will run from 10am until 4.30pm on Saturday and 10am until around 2.30pm to 3pm on Sunday.
