Bid for six new homes to go on village green
A bid is being made to build six two-storey homes on a village green.
The houses would be built within an existing semi-circle of homes off South Pickenham Road in North Pickenham.
A number of other applications have been made to build houses on the site over the past few years, but Breckland Council has refused them all and council officers have advised this latest bid also be turned down.
A council report on the bid, prepared in advance of a planning committee meeting which will consider the matter on October 28, said that while the homes would not intrude on open countryside: "It is considered the erection of a further six dwellings in this location would remove any remaining sense of openness, with a complete loss of the rural appearance of this locality."
Other objections to the homes mention loss of views and light, highway safety, ecological impact, the lack of services in the village to serve new residents, and the impact on the war memorial on the site.
